A Greener Stay

A Greener Stay

At Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, we are passionate about providing our guests with a more sustainable stay and meeting experience.

As an IHG hotel, we are aligned with IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow commitment to build a more sustainable hotel business for our people, communities and planet.

The hotel has put in place an Environmental Management Committee to spearhead sustainability initiatives and ensure continuous progress. We have achieved IHG Green Engage Level 4, the highest level of certification, reflecting our leading and innovative approaches to environmental sustainability.

We integrate sustainable thinking into our operations, including Meeting for Good practices such as digital collateral, plastic-free water service, reusable serviceware, and food waste reduction initiatives. These efforts support more sustainable meetings in our nature-inspired spaces and align with IHG’s broader sustainability goals.

Our sustainability management efforts have been recognised through various accolades, including the EarthCheck Gold Certification (first hotel in Singapore, 2014), Green Mark Certification (Gold) by BCA Singapore (2023), and the Top 100 Sustainable Hotels & Resorts of the World at the Luxury Lifestyle Awards (2024).

Sustainability is a core part of our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. In March 2025, we partnered with Food from the Heart, a local charity, to distribute surplus bread and pastries to three nearby beneficiaries. This initiative not only reduces food waste but also contributes to community nourishment and support.

We also encourage responsible guest participation through our Greener Stay programme. IHG One Rewards members staying for two nights or more can opt out of daily housekeeping and earn bonus points, supporting our efforts to conserve energy and water while allowing guests to contribute to positive social and environmental impact.

Our commitment to sustainable sourcing and supporting local suppliers is also reflected in our Farm-to-Table Recognition Programme (Mid Tier) awarded by the Singapore Food Agency in 2024.

Sustainability is thoughtfully integrated into the design and architecture of Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, reflecting Singapore’s heritage and a sense of place. The façade screen, inspired by orchid petals, not only offers visual elegance but also provides shade and serenity for travellers — enhancing their experience while reducing energy consumption.

Our open-air walkways, naturally ventilated spaces, and expansive floor-to-ceiling glass windows allow natural light into guest areas, promoting well-being and cultural harmony with nature while minimising the need for artificial lighting.

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport implements a wide range of green practices aimed at reducing our environmental footprint:

  • Early adopter of the ZWaste food digester, which converts food waste into greywater.
  • Implementation of LED lighting throughout the hotel and water-saving aerators in guestroom washbasins.
  • Use of filtered water taps, biodegradable straws, reusable glass bottles for meetings, and larger-size bathroom amenities to reduce single-use plastics.
  • Reuse of key cards, placement of recycling bins in public and back-of-house areas, and conserve cards encouraging towel and linen reuse in guest rooms.
  • Installation of cooling towers to support energy and water efficiency.

These efforts have earned the hotel multiple green awards, including the ASEAN Green Hotel Award (2014–2016, 2016–2018, 2022–2024), Singapore Hotel Green Award (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019), and 3R Awards for Hotels (2014, 2016, 2018).
