A Greener Stay

A Greener Stay

At Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, we are passionate about providing our guests with a more sustainable stay.

As an IHG hotel, we are aligned with IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow commitment to deliver a more sustainable hotel business for our people, communities and planet. From having a positive impact in local communities to reducing energy use, cutting waste and conserving water. Having achieved IHG Green Engage’s highest Level 4 certification, the hotel has demonstrated leading and innovative approaches to being sustainable and is among the leading hotels in the area of environmental sustainability.

Sustainability has always been an important part of our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. The hotel has put in place an Environmental Management Committee which spearheads these measures. Some of the most notable green efforts include being an early adopter of EcoWiz food digester which converts food waste into greywater which is then used for cleaning the bin centre. To reduce energy and water consumption, LED lighting has been implemented throughout the hotel and water-saving aerators have been installed on wash basins in the guestrooms.

The Greener Stay programme has been introduced to help the hotel decrease its environmental footprint by conserving energy and water, while also rewarding IHG One Rewards members who choose to make a positive impact on the environment when they stay. It allows members staying for two nights or more the option to forego all daily housekeeping services and receive IHG One Rewards bonus points.

Tackling waste is a key part of our Journey to Tomorrow commitment. To reduce single-use items and move to reusable or recyclable alternatives across the guest stay, filtered water taps, larger-size bathroom amenities. biodegradable straws as well as reusable glass bottles for meetings and events have been implemented.

Other sustainable practices include the reuse of key cards, display of conserve cards in guest rooms to encourage guests to reuse their linens and towels during their stay and the placement of recycling bins at public areas within the hotel and in the back-of-house.

The hotel integrates sustainable approaches into its design. The facade screen was conceptualised as three-dimensional lace screens resembling orchid petals that could provide shade for guestrooms and public spaces, and a sense of peace and tranquility for travellers. The naturally ventilated and lit open-air walkways and the ceiling to floor glass windows in the guestrooms allow natural light into the rooms, decreasing the need for artificial light. Cooling towers are also in place to provide water and energy savings.

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport’s commitment to sustainability has been recognised through the years. The hotel was awarded the Green Mark certification (Gold) by Building & Construction Authority Singapore in May 2023 and was the first hotel in Singapore to receive the EarthCheck Gold Certification in 2014. Other green awards received include ASEAN Green Hotel Award (2014 – 2016; 2016 – 2018 and 2022 – 2024), Singapore Hotel Green Award (2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019) and 3R Awards for Hotels (2014, 2016 and 2018).
